Dining at Mungumby in the Tcharibbeena Restaurant

Meals are as important as the beds at Mungumby as it is all part of the Mungumby Experience. The Tcharibbeena Restaurant daily gourmet blackboard menus served with fresh local produce and the world’s best water. Vegetarian meals are arranged upon prior request and any special dietary needs (Vegetarian, Gluten free etc) need to be advised prior to arrival to avoid disappointment. 

Gourmet picnic backpacks are available for clients heading on a walk for the day to one of our many waterfalls. We have a superb bar in the Tcharibbeena restaurant, where you are waited on or during the day can serve yourself.

There are various alternative restaurants and eating options 25 minutes away in Cooktown Township if you are looking for variety or something simple. We are located a short distance from the infamous Lions Den Pub a historic watering hole opened in 1875 to service the original Lions Den tin mine (now ruins) behind Mungumby Lodge. Clients often enjoy the local atmosphere and cold ales. 

We have no self catering facilities in the rooms or lodge itself. We have refrigeration available if you require likewise we are able to chill ice packs for eskies and our bar sells ice by the bag. The Tcharibbeena Restaurant and lodge pool area are fully licensed with no BYO (bring your own) facilities. In house guests are welcome to enjoy BYO in the rooms.

Recreation facilities on site

Nature is our entertainer as we are surrounded by some very intricate and diverse Eco Systems. During the day guests can take advantage of the numerous walking trails, exploring the adjoining World Heritage Listed rainforests and historic mining sites, secret waterfalls (good flow all year) and jungle pools of one of the properties numerous creeks. 

To compliment the lodge, Safari Expedition package options to visit some of Queensland’s fines aboriginal rock art sites, deserted beaches, and the stunning rainforest are on offer. Aboriginal guides can be arranged as an extra to the safaris at Laura for the Quinkan region, Wujal Wujal for the Eastern Yalangi region and Hopevale with Willie Gordon. A scenic flight over the reef and coastline landing on the Great Barrier Reef at Lizard Island for snorkeling, a great addition to any honeymoon. 

There are a wide range of self-guided options & facilities at Mungumby Lodge which guests can part take in with no additional cost. Spectacular waterfalls, inland lakes offer bird watching and trekking clients with numerous opportunities. The ocean nearby offers abundant fishing or Great Barrier Reef activities. 

We are also able to quote and arrange guided tours to visit and possibly spot various species like the rare and elusive Bennett’s Tree Kangaroo (Dendrolagus Bennettianus) (Tcharibbeena), which live on our property and surrounds. Likewise we are able to quote & arrange safari & trekking charter options for those who want to be looked after exclusively or have special interest requirements. Tours are also available, which include deep-sea ocean fishing to the pristine Ribbon Reefs. Light tackle estuary fishing is awesome especially by fly. Scenic flights to Lizard Island which all can be booked at or with the Lodge.
